Todd Marks, President and CEO, Mindgrub: Why I Love Baltimore

Mindgrub’s journey is one that has been influenced and facilitated by the city of Baltimore. Previously located in Catonsville, we moved to the neighborhood of Locust Point last year, both because it’s the geolocated epicenter of our employees’ commutes and an up-and-coming area that is home to new businesses, restaurants, and homes.

The city made our decision to relocate even easier to make, as Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and the Baltimore Development Corporation gave us a loan to help with moving expenses. We lucked into a great building developed by 28 Walker, furnished with energy efficient fixtures and systems for a reduced carbon footprint. In April, our Baltimore friends, family, and clients came out to support us at our housewarming party.

Being located in Baltimore gives us access to some great clients: T. Rowe Price, Polk Audio, Johns Hopkins University, UMBC, McCormick, and more. We’re also positioned to work with innovative startups, such as ParkRE, a real estate app that uses beacons to alert users to nearby homes with off street parking.

The creative culture of Baltimore is the perfect environment for any type of agency that’s trying to develop innovative and meaningful work. Mindgrub lets that Baltimore culture and pride seep into our office, which is most visually reflected in our Baltimore-centric mural by a local artist, but is also present in the work we produce, and the way we spend our free time as a company. We are committed to supporting Baltimore middle school and high school students looking to pursue careers in tech, and are actively involved in community events like the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure. We’re also bikers at Mindgrub, and Baltimore’s up-and-coming biking culture allows many of our employees to bike to work on city paths.

Those who live and/or work in Baltimore know that the city’s momentum is always moving us forward. For local businesses, it’s no different. Together we work alongside the citizens of Baltimore to enforce positive change in all aspects of life, encourage progressive out-of-the-box thinking, and support our evolving community. In addition to the growing tech sector, our city has a robust and flourishing culinary and arts scene and so much more to be proud of. Mindgrub is honored to be part of Baltimore’s creative, enterprising culture, and to contribute to its growing economy. We see that Baltimore’s future is bright, and that’s why we made this city our home, and have plans to stay.

Our company’s continued journey includes establishing valuable connections with local companies in the area, while working with big names to show what a tech agency in Baltimore can compete on a national level. Looking back at where we’ve been, it’s amazing to see the growth we’ve experienced, and we recognize that while we’ve worked hard for what we have, it’s our strategic location that has helped accelerate our success.
