When Debra Kiederer founded ChalkDust Consulting, her goal was to create a less traditional work style. Kiederer has three children, and through the culture she created at ChalkDust, she has been able to spend more quality time with her own kids, while her employees enjoy the same luxury. This flexible lifestyle focuses on the integration of life and work, and also allows the company to take on clients globally. With clients on the other side of the world, employees have the ability to organize their lives around an entirely different time zone. That means ChalkDust’s staff is full of unique individuals who spend their free time building families, creating art and working for nonprofits.
“Our overall culture lends itself to strong accountability and autonomy for project-based work. We have pioneered the Virtual Water Cooler, where a large group of consultants ‘meet’ remotely and share their current objectives and challenges with other team members.”
