The name Bombas is derived from the Latin word for bumblebees, and that was a very intentional choice: The company’s founders were inspired by the teamwork and altruistic nature of bees. On their first day of work, all employees and interns receive 10 pairs of socks to give to homeless persons they meet on the street, as socks are the most requested clothing item in homeless shelters. Bombas fosters a team spirit through giving events, Thursday team lunches and a lunch buddies program, during which employees are randomly paired to go out to lunch and get to know each other. These elements of the company’s culture, as well as its unlimited vacation policy, open work space and opportunities for growth and continued education, have been so successful that no one has quit or been fired from Bombas in its three years of existence.
“We firmly believe that a company owes its employees something beyond just a paycheck, so we take the responsibility very seriously of making Bombas somewhere people want to work.”
