When Kate Goodman first came on board at ATCO, she was at the bottom of the totem pole. Over the course of her nearly 20-year career with the company, Goodman worked her way up, eventually becoming co-president. Under her leadership, the family-owned real estate company has honed its approach to real estate, which includes owning and managing buildings, offering design, construction and property management services, and more.
Quick Tip: “To have it all and do it all isn’t really the focus; it’s doing your best every single day.”
“We are constantly going the extra mile to keep our tenants happy — from welcoming them into our portfolio with a breakfast for the whole office, to welcome bags for residential tenants with all the necessities for just moving in,” says Goodman. This welcoming attitude extends to the way Goodman nurtures her team: “I spend a tremendous amount of time and energy on the culture of my company, trying to make sure that there is true work-life balance, that we aren’t anybody’s everything, that people come to work because they feel well-respected and well-paid,” she says.
Mentorship is another important aspect of Goodman’s career at ATCO. She often brings young team members into higher-level meetings to let them in on her decision-making process, and spends extra time getting to know members of her team on a more personal level.
