FOUNDING PRINCIPLES: The first Fimbel to make a career out of building overhead garage doors was Ed Fimbel Sr., and his company, Fimbel Door Corporation, was founded in 1924. That company evolved into Fimbel Architectural Door Specialties in 2004, and though the business has grown, its principles are the same. “While our methods of manufacturing have changed as well as the technology we employ, we have held tight to the value we place on our quality, our dealers and our employees,” says president Erin Heindrichs.
Fun Fact: “After installing solar panels in 2010, 97 percent of the energy we use is renewable.”
ONBOARDING FAMILY: Different members of the Fimbel family have found their own route into the family business, with some growing up in the industry and others wearing all hats to get to know each aspect of the company. Though the process has been informal for past generations, Heindrichs says it will be more formal in the future to ensure that new members are a good fit for the team.
CULTURAL VALUES: “As a small business, we are a family and must work as a team to reach our goals,” says Heindrichs. “Versatility, initiative and flexibility are so incredibly important. We strive for synergy.” What’s more, the company encourages its employees to share ideas and make decisions, because creativity and innovation are the heart of the business.
LASTING LEGACY: “Our goal is to prevail and do so by staying true to our values. It’s essential that we have a positive impact on the industry, our community and our employees,” says Heindrichs. “We would love to see the fifth generation have the opportunity to carry on the legacy, as long as it will bring them joy and benefits the business.”
