Location: Hauppauge, NY
Industry: Optical, wholesale/distributor
FOUNDING PRINCIPLES: ClearVision Optical was founded by Fred Friedfeld, a Navy veteran, with the help of his wife Mimi. The company set out to serve independent eye care professionals with quality products and personal service. Ultimately, Friedfeld’s philosophy was to treat others as he wished to be treated, and four generations later, this value still makes up the “CV Way,” says president David Friedfeld. In May 2016, ClearVision celebrated its second annual Founder’s Day as a way to remember Fred Friedfeld and his values.
Quick Tip: “Family business is a three-legged stool made up of family in the business and outside the business, management and shareholders. Any weak leg can split what all have worked hard to achieve.”
ONBOARDING FAMILY: “We take our talent acquisition very seriously, and each member of the ClearVision family has to uphold our values and cultural expectations. This holds true regardless of existing relationships or family ties,” says David Friedfeld. ClearVision offers no preferential treatment and expects everyone, regardless of familial relationships, to submit a resume and go through the interview process.
CULTURAL VALUES: “We select talent to join our organization who are attracted to our culture and who are engaged by collaborating, ideating, and serving others,” says Friedfeld. Each employee is treated as family, and the company has a personal stake in making sure employees are challenged, growing and energized.
LASTING LEGACY: “ClearVision’s legacy directly relates to the company’s stated vision: to become a model company of business excellence in our marketplace and local community, and to set an example for our children,” says Friedfeld.
