Director of Brand Development
April Intrabartola, director of brand development at Eastman Cooke Construction, started her career as a special-education teacher working primarily with autistic students. The skills she gained in her 12 years as a teacher, including patience and communication, were an integral part of her rise to leadership at Eastman Cooke. Though she started as an executive assistant and assistant project manager, she quickly took on extra tasks, like creating a company operations manual. Today, her role encompasses a wide variety of areas, including strategic planning, brand and talent management, business development and internal operations.
Quick Tip: “I have always believed in giving back to my company, my industry and the community.”
Serving in a leadership position, Intrabartola has been able to become a mentor for other Eastman Cooke employees, particularly women. “I take my leadership role very seriously, especially as new or younger employees often come to me for guidance on how to best do their jobs,” says Intrabartola. “Women employees particularly see me as a role model for their burgeoning careers in construction, as this is an industry where they are still very much a minority presence.”
Beyond the workplace, Intrabartola is an active member of the community and industry. In fact, her family started the Kathi Smillie Nursing Foundation in honor of her aunt, who died of breast cancer in 2002. The foundation raises money for the fight against breast cancer, offers financial assistance to women undergoing treatment and provides scholarships to students of the Molloy College nursing program.
