OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCIES: When Larry “Boomer” Foster first joined Long & Foster Real Estate, his challenge was to improve communications. This was no small task for a company with 11,000 real-estate agents and more than 1,800 employees. Though Foster learned there is no cure-all, he has worked to constantly refine communications to ensure the company’s message gets across to its audience. “As long as you recognize that it’s an ongoing challenge, you can make continual improvements,” says Foster.
FUN FACT: “Before I joined the family business at Long & Foster, I served as a trial lawyer for almost 10 years. I also was a four-year letterman on the Gamecocks football team at the University of South Carolina.”
STRONG CULTURE: Foster works to build culture at Long & Foster through his own actions. “It’s about doing the right thing, even when no one is looking, or when it’s hard,” says Foster. “I hope these efforts motivate my team to do the same in achieving success for our company.” At Long & Foster, employees are valued for their insight and skills, and the company strives to create a collaborative environment that works toward a common goal, he says.
DAY-TO-DAY BALANCE: When Foster joined Long & Foster, his relationship with the CEO, who is also his uncle, took on a new dimension. Now, Foster helps represent the company, and his uncle, to employees and the world in a positive way.
