OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCIES: Gene Bell, SVP of operations at AOC Solutions Inc. says the fintech industry is “predicated on information and the ability to react quickly with a viable plan that is executed flawlessly.” Though managing the flow of information has been a challenge for AOC Solutions, Bell has addressed it by making sure team leaders are fully briefed on the relevant aspects of their tasks. Bell instituted weekly situation reports and in-person briefs to review project write-ups. “This approach has increased efficiency through clear-cut communication, but just as importantly, this approach has brought my leadership team closer together,” says Bell.
FUN FACT: “In middle school, I was a rugby protégé, and one of the fastest and tallest kids in my class.”
STRONG CULTURE: One of the most important aspects of culture, according to Bell, is investing in the personal successes of his team members. To do this, Bell helps them align their personal goals with organizational goals. “My personal theory is that you generate incredible synergy when both personal and professional needs/wants/desires are fairly congruous with one another,” he says.
DAY-TO-DAY BALANCE: Balancing the overall company vision with operational intricacies for Bell starts with his relationship with the CEO. The two share early-morning chats, during which AOC’s CEO provides mentorship and guidance. This has provided Bell with “the total picture, as opposed to my one piece of the puzzle.”
