“BLO/OUT Blow Dry Bar is the end of bad hair days,” says founder Avi Shenkar. The company offers blow-dry and styling services to women, and currently operates two flagship locations, but is in the process of launching a franchise operation in early 2017. Shenkar grew BLO/OUT by capitalizing on the success of the budding blow dry industry, which has disrupted traditional salon services by being less formal, more affordable and more convenient, Shenkar says. What’s more, the introduction of technology to the industry has been a game changer. “Salons never put any emphasis on client convenience, while the blow-dry bar industry does. Online and mobile booking, email and text confirmations, mobile punch cards and email surveys have allowed the industry to serve better and learn more about its clientele,” he says.

A high demand for BLO/OUT’s services has led to significant and rapid growth. Shenkar says the company grew so fast, it was left desperate for staff. Yet, BLO/OUT remained focused on finding top talent to join the team, offering attractive incentives like sign-on bonuses and improved pay structures. In addition to this, BLO/OUT grew its management team internally, promoting the brightest employees to manager when opportunities arose. Now, the company is focused on franchising its concept, and is working toward the goal of opening 50 franchises in the next five years.
