OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCIES: In his role as senior director of finance and operations at The Health Federation of Philadelphia, Robert Purdy developed a new structure for job titles to accommodate organizational growth and provide clarity. “The new title structure will serve as a foundation for the development of job classes and salary ranges,” he says. The nonprofit also implemented a new HR and payroll system. “This system was selected to provide greater efficiency and improve work performance,” says Purdy.
FUN FACT: “[I have] completed the Philadelphia Distance Run for 15 consecutive years.”
STRONG CULTURE: Purdy’s position was a replacement for a longstanding director who retired after 32 years of service. “I assumed my role by integrating myself into the management team and established a collaborative leadership role with the team,” says Purdy. “I take into account where the organization has been and where it wants to go by providing constructive feedback and recommendations to drive the organization forward.”
DAY-TO-DAY BALANCE: In his day-to-day work, Purdy is responsible for financial leadership that supports the administration and development of the Health Federation’s strategic goals. He accomplishes this by providing overall management of the organization to ensure profitable and efficient performance of business operations. In addition, Purdy ensures that effective policies and procedures are developed and implemented.
