SPIRIT OF INNOVATION: “I’ve learned never to say no to something the team wants to work on, but likewise sometimes say yes to something the team doesn’t want to work on,” says Semyon Fishman, CTO at BizEquity. “I avoid pigeonholing our developers, designers or even our interns, but instead I encourage them to figure out where their talents will be most productive, and let them grow on their terms.” Fishman also has knocked down some literal walls, replacing them with one large, shared desk for the team.
FUN FACT: “I grew up both in Russia and Israel before coming to the U.S. as an immigrant and attending high school.”
COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE: “We pay little attention to tech buzz words, and a lot of attention to measured facts,” says Fishman. “To that end, we measure every user interaction we can — and make decisions based on those realities. Over the years, this has led to a set of features, design patterns, user experiences and broader frameworks that allows us to quickly pivot to client demand and industry changes.”
ABOVE AND BEYOND: Fishman’s team has completely automated the process of quality assurance. “Every piece of code we write, we supplement with automated tests,” says Fishman. “This has allowed us to accelerate our release cycles from months to hours, which in turn has allowed the business to pivot more quickly and outrun compatriots.”
