FOCUSED ON RESULTS
“In all aspects of its work, [Options for Community Living, Inc.] management is mission-driven and focused on results. Options functions with a small core of long-term, dedicated leaders who are committed to the agency mission,” says executive director Yolanda Robano-Gross. The nonprofit provides housing, case management and care-coordination services to individuals with chronic physical and mental illnesses. Options is in the habit of viewing change as an opportunity, and this has allowed the organization to remain strong in an ever-evolving industry.
Quick Tip: “While growth is important and desirable, it needs to make sense.”
One of the greatest challenges Options has encountered during its fast growth is meeting the high needs of clients entering its program. Many of Suffolk County’s state-run psychiatric centers have closed, and Options has worked to help those left in need, who often have multiple, complex needs. “Clients have histories of homelessness, drug or alcohol addiction, incarceration, long-term institutionalization, as well as chronic medical conditions and serious and persistent mental illness,” says Robano-Gross. To best serve these individuals, Options opened a new apartment treatment program, with the support of the NYS Office of Mental Health. The facility accommodates 12 adults with onsite staff and personalized services.
