H&S Resources Corporation

Sonja N. Hines
President and CEO

H&S Resources Corporation is an 8(a) woman-owned small business. The company performs facility operations and maintenance services such as planning, consulting, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and preventive maintenance. H&S also provides integrated facility management services, such as logistics and information technology, to government agencies and commercial clients. To foster growth, H&S has expanded into new lines of business — construction and real estate — and partnered with other businesses to acquire new work. This strategy “has been effective and will add value to our existing portfolio,” says president and CEO Sonja N. Hines.

Quick Tip: “The most valuable lesson I have learned while leading a fast-growth company is to do your due diligence and execute quickly.”

As a new company in the federal contracting market, one big challenge for H&S was its lack of past performance experience. “Most federal government solicitation opportunities required that a company have at least three years of relevant work experience prior to submitting a bid,” Hines says. “As a startup company, we didn’t have company past performance; we only had corporate personnel experience.” Nevertheless, H&S established itself in the market. By 2020, Hines hopes, H&S will become a national brand.
