Committing to wellness: “Neustar, Inc. wanted to find a way to show our employees that we appreciate them and want to provide them with the tools and support they need to be healthy,” says Lisa Hook, president and CEO. That’s why the company introduced a wellness program in 2013. Realizing that it’s harder to achieve health and wellness goals on your own, Neustar extended the program’s benefits to employees’ spouses and domestic partners.
FUN FACT: Neustar’s most popular challenge so far has been the “2-Minute Drill,” a four-week program where participants complete a mini-workout session during working hours.
Special perks: Neustar’s wellness platform provides access to challenges, webinars, podcasts and a program coach. The information employees access there is customized based on results from their annual health assessment, biometric screening results and medical claims data. All employees who complete their health assessment and biometric screening receive a free Fitbit Flex, and other prizes such as Bluetooth headphones are available to those who take part in wellness challenges. Neustar funds up to 100 percent of the cost for on-site fitness group classes and up to 50 percent of an employee’s gym membership.
Solid results: In 2016, overall participation in Neustar’s wellness program increased by 19 percent, with a total of 59 percent of employees taking part. Since the implementation of Neustar’s tobacco-free workplace policy in 2015, along with smoking-cessation programs, the company has seen a year-to-date decrease of 5 percent in the number of smokers.
