Committing to wellness: In 2009, IntelliDyne, LLC was faced with a half-million dollar increase in its healthcare costs. Concerned about how this would impact the company, the executive team instituted a wellness program that would control cost, maintain quality healthcare and help IntelliDyne employees become educated healthcare consumers. Within the first year, IntelliDyne invested more than $20,000 in the “iTHRIVE, Healthy Eating, Active Living” program, offering free health risk assessments, blood pressure and cholesterol checks, weight screening and BMI screenings.
FUN FACT: IntelliDyne employees have formed a team to participate in the Dulles 10K, in support of the Special Olympics.
Special perks: IntelliDyne’s program includes corporate fitness challenges, online health coaching, educational sessions, biometric screenings, flu shots, coaching by professional nutritionists and fitness experts, online access to a health portal, and a smoking cessation program. In addition, IntelliDyne provides a $20 subsidy to all employees to offset the cost of a monthly health club membership or registration fees for races.
Solid results: To evaluate the success of its wellness program, IntelliDyne compares claims data for its employees against benchmarks from its medical carrier, Aetna. It also reviews results from health risk assessments, biometric screenings and fitness challenges. For example, 77 percent of IntelliDyne’s population complete an annual preventative care visit, compared with 63 percent of Aetna’s general population.
