Macro Solutions is a woman-owned small business and participated in the 8(a) program, from which it graduated in 2013. Over the last 16 years, Macro has grown from a two-person company into an organization with a combined employee and contractor workforce of 160. As Macro grew, it became apparent the company needed to prepare for the transition out of small business status. This meant either riding the current growth with no changes or pursuing certifications that would set the company up for a more sustainable future. Macro chose the latter option, certifying its services and development processes to CMMI Maturity Level 3, and its quality management systems with ISO 9001:2015.
Words of Wisdom: “Follow your passion — start a business that you believe in, and where you have experience with the industry and revenue model.”
Macro’s certifications allowed it to compete more aggressively for contracts, and the company was awarded three large prime contracts in 2015, all with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The awards, along with Macro’s initial performance, paved the way for subsequent contracts. While the FDIC continues to be the company’s largest customer, Marco also won a $30 million contract from the Defense Intelligence Agency and a $25 million contract from Health and Human Services.
As a female entrepreneur, Macro’s president and CEO Amy Wright is an advocate for females aspiring to enter the technology industry.
