President and CEO
Business Management Associates, Inc. (BMA) is a professional services firm focusing on HR and business process management. President and CEO LaJuanna Russell founded the company at her kitchen table, with $500 and a vision of working with federal clients to better understand their people and processes before implementing large technology projects.
Words of Wisdom: “Stay true to your vision. Stay true to why you started the company.”
Russell is an active advocate for the needs, concerns and challenges encountered by small woman- and minority-owned firms. She has given speeches on Capitol Hill, has met with members of Congress, and with the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Russell has also developed a relationship with Year Up, an organization dedicated to empowering low-income young adults.
Russell says BMA’s growth has been based on “a focused strategy to pivot from being a primary subcontractor to a competitive prime contractor, focusing on our vertical markets. We determined the specific contract vehicles important to our clients and within our vertical markets, and ultimately pursued and received them. Once the vehicles were in place, we developed the strategic alliances … to ensure we could successfully penetrate targeted federal agencies.”
