Committing to wellness: Centric Bank believed there would be a number of potential benefits to implementing a wellness program, including lower healthcare costs, reduced absenteeism, higher employee productivity, and improved employee morale and loyalty. The bank launched its program, “Highway To Well,” in April 2016, and is ready to make adjustments based on employee preferences.
FUN FACT: Some employees turned in up to 11 hours of exercise per week to earn points for their team in the Spring Wellness Challenge.
Special perks: Each quarter, employees will earn points for engaging in healthy activities, including dental and vision checkups, mammograms, flu shots and company-sponsored health seminars. “The purpose of the point system was to inspire healthy competition within our employees,” says Patricia Husic, president and CEO of Centric Bank. If employees earn a minimum amount of points each quarter, they are entered into a drawing for prizes up to $150 in value.
Solid results: One way for employees to earn points was Centric Bank’s Spring Wellness Challenge. Forty-five participants were broken down into teams, and the teams competed for five weeks to see who could log the most hours of being active. All types of exercise counted, including running, cycling, aerobics, walking, swimming and strength training. “Our teams recorded more than 1,440 hours of activity,” says Husic. “The winning team was awarded a trophy and bragging rights for the next year.”
