The Renfrew Center was founded with the mission of empowering women through treatment, training, research, prevention and advocacy in the field of eating disorders. “In a safe and healing community, we provide adolescent girls and women with the skills and support to recover from anorexia, bulimia and binge-eating disorder, and to create meaningful, satisfying lives,” says president and CEO Samuel Menaged.
Of Menaged’s four children, one works with the company now, and another is pursuing a degree in the hopes of bringing his expertise to the company. Before joining the family business, Menaged asks that family members gain work experience outside The Renfrew Center to develop professional skills.
Quick Tip: “Make sure your children understand that you expect them to perform as well as any other employee to keep their job.”
“Renfrew’s egalitarian culture is based on the importance of relationships and respect — an aspect of the clinical and operational philosophy on which Renfrew is built,” says Menaged. He aims to get to the heart of the business, rather than focusing solely on its mechanics, and has been rewarded with more than 500 employees who take a personal interest in all aspects of the business.
“We have consistently been trailblazers, and I fully expect our future to be as rich and innovative as our past,” says Menaged. Even as The Renfrew Center has grown, it has maintained its commitment to high-quality services and patient care, and this has allowed it to develop a reputation for clinical excellence that Menaged expects to keep growing.
