Philly Case Company president Vinny Barbati learned the business of manufacturing shipping cases from his uncle and grandfather. He worked for their company off and on, and ultimately got into the same industry, where he now works with a new generation of family members. Though the manufacturing environment has changed over the years, he still goes back to the values he learned early on: “We strive to be the best in the industry by providing outstanding customer service, mutually beneficial relationships with our customers, our suppliers, our employees and all our business associates,” says Barbati.
Though Barbati’s wife, sister and brother-in-law all work within the company, he isn’t sure what the next generation of employees will look like. Nonetheless, the company has always been a family operation. Over the years, nieces and nephews have worked during their schooling years, and Barbati’s own daughters have helped out.
Quick Tip: “Business cannot interfere with family, and family cannot interfere with the business.”
When Barbati first started Philly Case Company, he had no customers, no machinery, and housed the company in the basement of a row home. Today, the company has 15 employees, national recognition and a 30,000-square-foot facility. He describes the company’s success as a “Cinderella story.”
“We do what we say, and we say what we do,” says Barbati. It’s this reputation that he hopes the company will be remembered for. On a personal level, he is proud of the fact that Philly Case Company has helped people grow and prosper in a caring, family-oriented environment.
