For more than 100 years, The Institutes have served as the knowledge center for the property and casualty insurance industry. Through their work, The Institutes prepare insurance professionals to fulfill their professional and ethical responsibilities by offering educational research, networking opportunities and career resources. In addition, the organization provides a variety of courses, programs and professional development opportunities that fill in knowledge gaps at every level of the industry. “We have provided knowledge products, including designations, to the industry to help ensure that knowledgeable, ethical people perform their jobs to the benefit of their customers,” says president Peter L. Miller.
Quick Tip: “Clearly understand your customers and the problem you are solving for them. It is awful to do a really great job at something you should not have done.”
To ensure that the organization is staying true to its mission, Miller emphasizes the importance of involvement and communication. “We include our employees in the formulation of our goals and strategies,” says Miller. “We constantly seek their input and ideas about how we should execute our mission.” Outside the office, Miller serves on several industry-related boards, including a college business fraternity catering to people studying relevant industries. Miller says he chose to work with college students in an effort to involve the next generation in the industry.
