Benjamin Obdyke Incorporated develops, sources, markets and sells proprietary roof and wall products, with a primary focus on moisture management. President and CEO David Campbell says he is most proud of his company’s ability to contribute to building science. “We have been able to take very technical engineering and high-end approaches and come up with practical solutions,” says Campbell. “Our ability to bring it down to a level that the builder or contractor can understand and to make a difference is key in our industry.” For example, Benjamin Obdyke has worked with the U.S. National Parks Department on several historical restoration projects. Its product, Cedar Breather, goes underneath cedar roofs to create a longer-lasting structure. The system allows for both a longer lifespan and historical accuracy.
Quick Tip: “We take the work seriously, but don’t take each other seriously.”
Campbell says Benjamin Obdyke employees spend a lot of time learning about the industry and participating in various ways, including through tradeshows and industry associations. In addition, the company is involved with the organization Homes of Hope in Mexico, which builds houses for those in need. The company has taken groups of employees to Mexico to build a house in just two days. “It keeps us humble and is an opportunity to show building practices and the various components that go into building a house,” says Campbell.
