President and CEO
Top of the Clock provides uniformed security guards, consulting and investigations, executive protection, specialized training and additional services for professional security. “Top of the Clock was founded by my father, the late Gregory J. Stith,” says Nakia Stith, president and CEO. “His founding vision for the business was to create safe communities and provide jobs for community members. Today, that vision still drives the work we do.”
Fun Fact: Stith is a community educator for the National Kidney Foundation.
When Stith joined the business, she was only 23 years old and had recently graduated from college. But with her father seriously ill and the business in debt, she jumped in to help. “All of the employees were older than me, many of them were men,” she says. “On top of that, they were convinced I was getting special treatment because I was the boss’s daughter — I wasn’t. … I often worked around the clock and did every job, because we are a 24/7 operation.” Stith decided to let go most of the existing staff and hire a new team she could trust. Eventually, the business turned a corner.
While the security guards traditionally offered by Top of the Clock can discourage crime and help enforce rules and regulations, Stith felt that they couldn’t guarantee a safe environment. “With that in mind, I created ResilienC, a consultancy that works with Top of the Clock,” she says. “ResilienC looks at all the safety factors that lie outside the realm of the uniformed guard corps.”
