While Winthrop University Hospital (WUH) has grown significantly since its founding in 1896, it has maintained a sense of family and camaraderie, says Stacey Pfeffer. “The empathy and concern we express to our patients is reflective of how we treat each other.” One point of pride for WUH is that it hasn’t laid off a single employee in its 120-year history. “We also have a generous tuition and certificate program, which encourages many employees to pursue higher learning to better their careers,” says Pfeffer. WUH has embarked on a number of wellness initiatives, such as Take The Stairs. “Take the Stairs stickers have been placed on stairwell doors throughout WUH properties, reminding employees to choose stairs over the elevator,” says Pfeffer.
“The more engaged our workforce, the better the company culture.”
