Options for Community Living, Inc. provides housing, case management and care coordination services to individuals with chronic physical and mental illnesses. “The individuals we serve come from a variety of backgrounds. The common thread is that they are striving to maintain as independent and productive a lifestyle as possible,” says executive director Yolanda Robano-Gross.
Fun Fact: Robano-Gross was recently appointed to the governing board for the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless.
Options offers a mental health residential program that includes hundreds of transitional and supported housing beds for those recovering from mental illness. “Over the last three years, an average 96.7 percent of tenants consistently retained their supported housing placement or were discharged to situations of equal or greater independence,” says Robano-Gross.
Options hosts a variety of creative fundraisers, including an annual comedy night and a Panera Bread dinner event. In the past two years, the nonprofit has also become an active participant in the local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, raising funds for awareness and to eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness. Last year, Options was one of the top fundraisers at the NAMIWalks event at Jones Beach.
