“Small businesses make up around 85 percent of all jobs in the U.S., and it’s an area where our economy relies on new business, new technology, new developments, innovation,” says Christine Ippolito, principal of Compass Workforce Solutions. “But it’s an underserved market in regards to professional services like HR.” Compass is looking to fill that gap, providing small businesses with HR services, and expertise on compliance with state, federal and local laws.
Fun Fact: Ippolito has participated in the Long Island Fight For Charity as a charity boxer, raising almost $10,000.
Like most executives, Ippolito says she sometimes feels the strain of being a resource and leader for both employees and clients at the same time. “I go home and I really don’t want to talk to anybody. I’m pretty much talked out by 7 or 7:30 at night,” she says. “I’m very into health and wellness and exercise and fitness, because I think it allows me to deal with stress, to be sharp, to be focused, to be well, to feel good, to have the energy and the stamina to be able to do this.”
Ippolito makes it a point to offer work for students at Compass. “I like to provide opportunities for young people to know what it is like to have a career in HR,” she says. Outside the office, Ippolito is an active member of the Women Presidents’ Organization and the Society of Human Resource Management, and she co-chairs the healthcare committee of the Hauppauge Industrial Association.
