DONE DEAL: World Wide Packaging LLC (WWP) recently added a brand-new, 110,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Suzhou, a suburb of Shanghai. “I traveled to China to meet with the many local government bodies and economic development agencies in each of the different industrial areas around Shanghai,” says CEO Barry A. Freda. Once the company’s application was accepted by the local authorities, it was time to build the factory. “During late 2013, 2014 and 2015, I made almost 20 trips to China,” says Freda. “Most of my time was spent either checking on construction progress or looking at equipment.” Today, the factory employs more than 150 people in Suzhou.
Fun Fact: “We hold five covers of Tube News (an industry publication) and more than 15 awards for best designs and package of the year.”
BIG IMPACT: “WWP is now a global manufacturer and we can say we own 100 percent of a facility on the other side of the world,” says Strauss. As a result, the company has attracted several new customers who previously would have been beyond its reach, says Strauss. “That I might ever be in a situation where I was negotiating to make a global business deal, with a foreign government, is not only something I would have never thought possible, but having a successful outcome was even more unlikely.”
