CEO and Creative Director
Tattoo Projects has performed marketing and communications work for clients including Victory Motorcycles, MilkSplash, Sheetz Convenience Stores, Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte, Outlaw Screws and Greenworks Tools. “Tattoo is known for creating bold work that leaves indelible impressions; hence the name,” says Rudy Banny, CEO and creative director. “Traditionally, ad agencies are valued based on their hourly contribution to a client’s account. We challenged this norm, believing that the commodity ad agencies provide is concept and creative — not time.” Tattoo works on a flat-fee project basis, rather than by billable hours.

This approach has been a cornerstone of Tattoo’s growth, and was especially helpful during the Great Recession. “When the economic downturn slashed marketing budgets around the world, many companies no longer had the resources to afford agencies of record,” says Banny. “However, regardless of total budget, they still had a lot of marketing and advertising to do. And we were perfectly positioned with the right business model and a powerful reputation to capitalize on the opportunity.” Along the way, Tattoo’s biggest challenge has been finding the right talent, says Banny. “Learning to never waver from our culture, no matter what, has been a valuable learning process.”
