Marie McLucas, CFO of Primax Properties LLC, has never been one to let her fears or weaknesses get the better of her. “When I feared public speaking, I felt it held me back from personal opportunities I wanted to pursue,” she says. “To conquer my fear, I found opportunities to speak and accepted external leadership positions that required me to speak to large groups.”
Quick Tip: “If you surround yourself with smart, motivated and successful people, you will be successful.”
This determination to succeed has served McLucas well at Primax, where she oversees policies and procedures for all financial functions, and is actively involved in strategic and succession planning. One of her primary responsibilities is financing Primax’s development projects and handling all legal aspects of a transaction. McLucas manages approximately 100 closing transactions each year and, since joining Primax in 1995, she has been instrumental in the successful completion of some 1,000 single-tenant retail projects in 33 states.
McLucas is passionate about the advancement of women and young professionals in the real estate and construction industries. She has been a repeat mentor for the Charlotte Business Journal’s annual Mentoring Monday event since its inception in 2014, and is currently supporting her second mentee for CREW Charlotte, an association of professionals in commercial real estate. “I like to give back and influence the success of others in a way that I have been given,” says McLucas. “Mentoring or sponsoring others in your organization and helping aspiring leaders is as rewarding for the mentor as it is for the mentee.”
