“I have helped lead LBA Haynes Strand, PLLC through three mergers and 10 acquisitions since 2006,” says principal member Julie Ayers. “I did this by recognizing that baby boomers were retiring and most CPA firms didn’t have a strategic exit plan in place. This realization set the course for our mergers and acquisitions strategy, which over the past decade took us from working from our homes to a firm with 70 employees [and] three regional offices.”
Quick Tip: “Be accountable to everyone, including yourself. If you say you’re going to do something, get it done.”
Ayers leads LBA Haynes Strand’s tax division and charter school accounting team. “My teams are close knit and we all understand the importance of our work to our clients,” she says. Ayers also coaches several employees at LBA Haynes Strand, and is heavily involved with Charlotte NAWBO, where she is the immediate past president of the board.
In 2006, Ayers decided to run the Chicago Marathon, despite not being an athlete or even a fitness enthusiast. “Not one to tackle these challenges alone, I engaged a handful of friends from all over the country to join me,” she says. “While no medals were awarded to any of us that day, we all finished, and it was a personal feat I will never forget. I learned that with hard work, everything is possible.”
