Dr. Cheryl Richards
CEO and Regional Dean
Northeastern University – Charlotte is the first expansion campus for a nearly 120-year-old institution based in Boston. “I often refer to our campus as a 100-year-old startup,” says Dr. Cheryl Richards, CEO and regional dean. “As the first expansion campus, there was no roadmap for developing new protocols and envisioning what the campus could become. [But] in just five years, our Charlotte campus has paved the way for a global network of campuses that now exist in Seattle, Silicon Valley and Toronto.”
Fun Fact: “My volunteer leadership roles have led me to be named twice as one of Mecklenburg’s 50 Most Influential Women (2010 and 2014), as one of the Top 25 Women in Business (2014) and as Woman of the Year (2014).”
An important part of Northeastern University’s success in Charlotte has been attracting high-quality faculty and scholars. “While our competitors have discontinued their traditional MBA program, we have doubled down on our investment in the region,” says Richards.
“I have been actively engaged in the Charlotte community since moving to the region in 2004,” says Richards. “My service began as board member of a local chapter of the Charlotte Chamber. I was soon asked to chair that board, along with another chapter two years later.”
