Lisa A. Brothers, PE, LEED AP BD+C
Chairman and CEO
Lisa A. Brothers spent time working for a company where the environment encouraged unethical practices and unprofessional behavior. When she left after a short tenure, she vowed that she would make sure to create a completely different culture at a company one day. Since the inception of Nitsch Engineering, the firm’s motto has been to “do the right thing right.”
Quick Tip: “Be authentic in leading people and building practices that create opportunities for success.”
As CEO of Nitsch Engineering, Brothers has witnessed the unconscious bias against females that is present in the male-dominated engineering industry. The solution, she says, is that women need a seat at the table to have an impact on the work environment for women in engineering. In addition, Brothers says, it is important to encourage young girls to pursue engineering, and to hold on to them once they enter the workforce. Nitsch Engineering has signed the Boston Women’s Workforce Council’s 100 Percent Talent: The Boston Women’s Compact, which collects payroll information from participating firms to assess the condition of wage inequality.
To further encourage young women to pursue STEM careers, Nitsch hosts “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day,” and invites clients to bring their daughters, nieces and friends along.
