Committing to wellness: This year, SIG is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its wellness program, and president Richard Silberstein says he has seen the program grow to become an integral part of SIG’s culture. “Wellness isn’t just something we do; it’s part of who we are,” he says. In fact, the company has an entire team dedicated to wellness. When SIG’s program first kicked off with its 10,000-steps-a-day pedometer challenge, Silberstein didn’t know what to expect, but over the last decade, the program has grown to offer a variety of options.
FUN FACT: SIG has an annual Just Eat Real Food Challenge, and employees have made long-term changes as a result.
Special perks: SIG’s wide range of wellness offerings includes healthy cooking demonstrations, potlucks, healthy catered meals, free on-site fitness classes, company-wide fitness challenges and more. Where once employees snacked on pretzels, soda and M&Ms, they now enjoy fair-trade coffee and tea, nuts, seeds, fresh fruits and hummus. The company’s Vitamix blender ensures employees can enjoy healthy smoothies as well. What’s more, SIG’s wellness offerings are constantly evolving as employees offer input.
Solid results: One hundred percent of SIG’s staff members participate in at least one component of its wellness program. Silberstein says that 10 years ago, it was a challenge to get employees to participate at all. Through an employee survey, SIG learned that 83 percent of employees say the program has changed the way they think about food.
