Committing to wellness: The wellness program at Edell, Shapiro & Finnan, LLC (ESF) has existed since the firm’s inception, but in recent years, legal administrator Nikki Korson has taken extra care to infuse the workplace with a new fitness and health focus. Korson refers to ESF’s wellness program as an evolving machine, and the firm makes sure employees have opportunities to work on fitness, healthy eating, emotional health and their workplace community.
FUN FACT: To promote emotional wellness, ESF celebrates holidays like Pi Day, Valentine’s Day and Staff Appreciation Day with parties, happy hours and contests.
Special perks: ESF recently gave employees Fitbits as a holiday gift, and offers monthly reimbursements for health club memberships up to a certain dollar amount. What’s more, the firm participates in annual group fitness challenges to benefit the American Heart Association, and offers healthy food options through its stocked in-house kitchens.
Solid results: Last fall, ESF took its employees on a zip-lining adventure, and about 70 percent of the firm participated. “The afternoon provided us with many employees stepping outside their shells, working together in the treetops to make it through the course,” says Korson. In hopes of continuing to see high participation rates, the firm monitors employee engagement in its programs, and works to make sure everyone is able to attend them. To that end, ESF often closes early for its wellness events.
