LEADERSHIP AND MENTORING: “I have been fortunate to have several amazing mentors throughout my career journey,” says Stephanie Reid, chief nursing officer and VP, patient services at Carroll Hospital. “These mentors helped me learn the art of inspiring others by sharing my passion for always keeping the patient at the center of all we do.” To this day, Reid embraces teaching and collaboration as part of her leadership style.
FUN FACT: “I am the mother of five children and an only child myself.”
OVERCOMING CHALLENGES: Reid’s biggest challenge has been adjusting to the recent spate of changes in the healthcare landscape. “I needed to tap into my leadership skills along with my educational and communication skills,” she says. Ultimately, she has been able to rally her teams to implement new action plans that promote wellness and change how nurses provide care.
DRIVING VALUE: “I see my biggest and most impactful organizational initiative to be that of implementing our nursing shared governance program at Carroll Hospital,” says Reid. The program promotes collaboration between nurses in various departments to define care based on proven best practices. “The Nursing Best Practice Council then meets regularly and shares these best practices and research results to positively impact care,” she says.
