As the economy started to unravel in 2007, the founders of Delbert Adams Construction Group, LLC (DACG) nevertheless decided the time was right to launch — in an 8×10 office with a desk and a phone. In its early days, the company benefited from its established relationships, with friends reaching out to have DACG replace windows, remodel kitchens and even manage the renovation of an exclusive golf club. The timing of the company’s startup provided unique opportunities because other builders were struggling and were forced to downsize or close their business. As a result, some of the best tradesmen and project managers were being laid off and found new employment opportunities at DACG.
Quick Tip: “Always hire and surround yourself with people who are smarter than you.”
To ensure DACG’s employees can exceed its expectations, the company first makes sure to articulate those expectations. On their first day, new employees receive a book that helps them understand the company’s goal — to create “raving fans” — and how to achieve it. This goal is reinforced on a regular basis, as DACG shares personal client accolades with the team and places related notes in the employee’s file to be discussed during a review.
