When Ashley Riddle was seeking onsite bridal beauty services for her wedding in 2004, few such services existed. As a bride-to-be and a young hairstylist, she immediately recognized an unfulfilled demand. Combining her passion for hair styling and makeup artistry with enthusiasm for weddings, she launched her company, Up Do’s For I Do’s.
Fun Fact: Up Do’s performed hair makeovers on beloved dolls for the 2012 American Girl Doll Fashion Show, benefiting the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital and Cool Kids Campaign.
Up Do’s embraces technology, particularly social media, as a way to communicate with its customers. “Sharing what we are up to at Up Do’s through social media affords us the opportunity to showcase our talents, offer a sneak peek at behind-the-scenes photo shoots, publish bridal reviews, respond to questions via Tweets, acknowledge fellow wedding vendors and introduce ourselves to prospective clients,” says Riddle.
Investing in recruiting like-minded team members and effectively managing the human resources of a fast-growing organization has been crucial to success at Up Do’s. These responsibilities, when properly executed, require a significant amount of manpower, says Riddle. “I have learned the value and the power of delegating tasks.”
