SETTING THE TONE: Kerstin Recker, the head of marketing for NTENT, knows that a “one-size-fits-all” approach doesn’t make a successful manager in today’s business world. That’s why she manages her team with special attention to the nuances in each individual’s skill set and personality.
Quick Tip: “The success of the products you build and the processes you instate all boil down to the people in your organization.”
JUMPING HURDLES: As the head of marketing, one of the biggest challenges Recker has experienced has been leading the rebranding effort in an organization that was riddled with poor communication. Understanding that she wasn’t going to be able to get all the key members to meet in one place at one time, Recker went about setting up smaller meetings, which enabled her to gather key insights, communicate project updates and see perspectives from other departments.
GO-TO RESOURCE: Recker knows that there is always a way to facilitate collaboration, but that it often requires flexibility and a diplomatic communication style. As a manager, she has been remarkably adaptable and focused on the solution to any problem that has presented itself. That has meant serving as a liaison between departments, conducting small group workshops and finding a way to include all staff members — not just key players — in major decisions.
